Movement
I work collaboratively with a director to tell a story physically in a way that serves their vision and brings out the best in a cast. I believe that an actor's movement and emotional performance should combine perfectly to complement and elevate each other.
Intimacy
I work closely with the director and actors to create safe, repeatable and comfortable choreography that tells the story of the moment without compromising anyone's boundaries.
I believe that sexy scenes should be just that - sexy!
Who Am I?

I'm Mikey Brett and I've been in the performing arts since childhood. I began working with puppets at 15 and trained at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in Collaborative & Devised Theatre. Collaboration remains at the heart of what I do today - working with directors, actors and creative teams to bring bold and exciting ideas to life. Whether I'm working with actors or puppets, my priority is making excellent work with excellent people. I have the expertise to mix traditional techniques with the unexpected to create memorable moments on stage and screen. That said, I don't take myself too seriously but I take my work incredibly seriously. My ethos is work hard, have fun, and let that produce superior results.

What I Can Do For You
I've worked with puppets in theatre, film and TV for over 20 years and offer a range of services, whether you need someone to consult on how puppets can best serve your production, take on a bespoke project from start to finish, or come in for a few sessions to direct your performers.
As a consultant I can help make suggestions on the type and style of puppetry, put you in touch with makers or performers, or liaise with VFX, SFX or other departments to ensure everything runs smoothly.
My bespoke service runs from initial concept, through design, build & delivery, and right through to performance. I'll be with you every step of the way as much or little as you need or want!
As a puppetry director I work with the cast and the show's director to make the puppetry cohesive, slick and manageable - puppetry can be hard work and I aim to make it as physically sustainable as possible.
Movement
Movement Direction
I've directed movement for theatre for over 10 years. In past productions I have directed flying, zero-gravity, time travel and humans as animals. I love to stage the impossible and see no reason to limit the ambition of theatre staging, whatever the budget.
I have extensive experience in liaising with technical departments, communicating ideas between people or mediating to find middle ground. I love creating an ensemble on-stage and off so everyone can contribute to the telling of the story.
I've previously worked with Clwyd Theatr Cymru, Southwark Playhouse, Norwich Puppet Theatre, and at VAULT Festival among others.
Intimacy
Intimacy Direction & Coordination
My practice is grounded in safe, repeatable, and story-driven choreography that gives the actors space to perform and gives the director the intention needed to progress the story.
My work begins with individual meetings with the director and every actor involved and then rehearsal without the director to shape the scene. The director is then brought in to refine and provide direction on the emotional content of the moment.
Throughout, I liaise with stage management, assistant directors, wardrobe & set and art departments as well as producers to ensure the safety and comfort of the performers.
